Grape variety: Marzemino. Marzemino is a grape variety indigenous to this region. It has a parent-offspring relationship with Pinot Noir via two other Italian grape varieties.
Description: The name, “Quattrore”, is linked to the ‘short stay’ of the skins of the grapes in contact with the must in fermentation, 4 hours.
Elegant, fruity, hints of wild strawberries, currants and grape stems. On the palate it is elegant and velvety. It has excellent fruit, in which the character of Marzemino is accompanied by a beautiful flavour and persistence.
Whether you're enjoying an aperitif or sitting down to a meal, this wine is sure to impress. It's perfect for pairing with oriental cuisine and pizza, adding a delightful touch to any dish.
Marzemino is a red Italian wine grape that is primarily grown around Isera, south of Trentino. The wine is most noted for its mention in the opera Don Giovanni of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ("Versa il vino! Eccellente Marzemino!"). The vine ripens late and is susceptible to many grape diseases including oidium. Wine produced from the grape has a characteristic dark tint and light plummy taste.
Ampelographers have long theorized that the grape originated in northern Italy. Recent DNA profiling revealed Marzemino to have a parent-offspring relationship with the Friuli-Venezia Giulia wine grapes Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso and Teroldego which gives further evidence to its likely origins in this region.
