Our Namesake
It’s all in our name… Wines & Spirits really only become visible to us when we taste them consciously or when they excite something in us. Most often, the things that delight us are unexpected and transient in nature, much like you might say, an ‘apparition’. <wink> When you taste a beautifully crafted wine or spirit, it should cause you to pause…to wonder about where it is from, to imagine the people behind, to taste the care that has been taken .. and when it is over, to feel struck by the idea that that which took such understanding, nurturing and patience to create is so easily and quickly consumed ..then gone.
At Apparition Wines & Spirits, we are inspired by nature, people, creativity, culture, pleasure and learning. Being the Ontario partner for these beautifully crafted and cared for wines and spirits and their wonderful makers, and to have you, our beloved clients from the curious to the more careful, be a part, is a privilege and one of life’s greatest pleasures.

Our Founder
Katherine Mellin, Founder & Directing Principal
Katherine is no stranger to pushing her comfort zone and she is seldom still. She is a lawyer, has a MHSc (a MBA with a healthcare focus) from UofT, is IWEG/WSET Levels II & III Certified, a Certified Sommelier in the Court of Master Sommeliers and a Certified Piedmont Wine & Food Specialist in Ian D’Agata’s 3iC Program.
When asked what her favourite style of wine is, her response:
“There is no preferred style rather a quality..‘a tension’. A wine with this quality can take my attention and more often than not, keep it. Tension meaning essential opposing elements in a constant exchange (for instance acidity, fruit, minerality), similar to a choreographed dance in which both partners are competing to be the dominant and neither ever really winning yet making a captivating display all the while. It is a level above balance, it is a dynamism, an ‘aliveness’. A number of the wines in the Apparition Wines’ Portfolio possess this quality. Perhaps you’ll try one..?”
